Over 39% of the Canadian beef cow herd can be found in the Rocky Mountain foothills and prairies of Alberta, and another 29% can be found on the prairies and parkland of Saskatchewan.
Quality Starts Here
Quality Starts Here is an educational program for beef cattle farmers and ranchers that promotes management practices for producing the safest, highest quality beef. These management practices are backed by research carried out to determine the best production practices for the Canadian beef industry.
Good Production Practices manuals have been developed for the cow-calf sector, the feedlot sector, and for those producing feed for cattle. For the cow-calf sector, Good Production Practices cover areas such as record keeping, facilities and cattle handling, animal health product use, and culling, calving and weaning procedures. These Good Production Practices were promoted to cattle farmers and ranchers through written material and are now available on websites.
