The Environmental Stewardship Award (TESA)

Beef cattle producers are naturally in tune with the environment. Their families and their businesses depend on the health of the land, the water, and the air in which they and their cattle reside. All cattle producers are stewards of the renewable natural resources on which they depend for their livelihood.

Since 1996, The Environmental Stewardship Award (TESA) has been presented by the Canadian Cattlemen's Association to publicly recognize beef cattle operations that have made outstanding efforts to protect and enhance the environment. Recipients of the award often serve as ambassadors for the environment in their community, teaching other farmers and ranchers about the projects they've undertaken, and conveying to the community at large the good news about environmentally friendly beef cattle operations.

Judging Criteria
The following criteria are used to select an outstanding cattle operation for presentation of the TESA award:
  • Goals - short and long term resource management goals.
  • Implementation - description of changes deemed necessary and why they were made.
  • Accomplishments - the impacts the changes had and how they made the farm or ranch more sustainable.
  • Community and organizational involvement - how the good news about accomplishments was shared with others.
